In our global world
learning a foreign language at an early age has become
more and more important for our students. English has
always had first priority at German schools.
Partnerships between our schools and those in the UK
have always contributed largely in giving our students
an immediate insight into British social and cultural
life.
Since 1st February 2009 English is taught at
Primary Schools from Year One in the federal state of
North Rhine – Westphalia. This is why from now on more
and more primary schools will be on the look out for a
partner-school in the UK.
In co-operation with Bedfordshire County Officer Rebecca
Smith and the support of Bonn local authorities, The
Oxford Club Bonn has made it possible for four Bonn
Lower Schools to join a project which was originally
initiated in 2003. In 2006 this initiative for the first
time helped four German Lower Schools from the Bonn /
Rhine-Sieg Area to embark on various projects with Lower
Schools in Bedfordshire. Since that time, for three
years running, 50 to 60 primary students as young as
seven and eight years have had the opportunity to visit
Bedfordshire and at the same time the same number of
young students from Bedfordshire have visited Germany.
